It may be the most anticipated season in Denver Broncos history. The team is already seeing record numbers of fans at training camp, and you can't turn on a national sports TV show without hearing something about the team. Today fans will be able to see the team in some real action when they take to Sports Authority Field at Mile High to scrimmage each other.

The 2012 Summer Scrimmage presented by U.S. Bank, King Soopers and Melanoma Exposed will be held at Sports Authority Field at Mile High on Saturday, Aug. 4.  Gates will open at 3:30 p.m., on-field activities will begin at 3:50 p.m. and the scrimmage is slated to begin at 5:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Fans are strongly encouraged to take public transportation, bike or carpool due to limited parking.

“Just that guys get out and play full speed,” offensive coordinator Mike McCoy said about what the scrimmage does for the team. “Just let guys go cut it loose and see what they can do when it’s more game-like and not controlled tempo.”

More than anything, however, the coaching staff will get to see how guys who are on the roster bubble perform.

“We’ll work everybody,” defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio said. “We’ll have our coaches in the booth. We’ll work substitutions from the sideline, but really seeing how guys respond when the lights are on.”

The key is letting players compete so that things can kind of sort themselves out. Will a guy make the team on special teams or will he be cut all together?

In addition to narrowing down the roster, the guys who are definitely on the team will get a chance to get their football legs back under them. No player is as excited as Peyton Manning is to do so.

Manning has always thought highly of Denver and its fans.

“It’s a great stadium,” Manning said. “I’ve always thought that and I’ve always thought the Broncos have had great fans. It’s always been a loud, tough place to play as an opponent. It’s always been a challenge communicating for the opponent…Playing here through the years, the Broncos have always had passionate fans that love their team. I’m glad to be on that side now.”
