A proposed five-year moratorium on hydraulic fracturing in Fort Collins has enough signatures to appear on the November ballot.The holding pattern will allow time for study on the impact on health and property values.

The Coloradoan reports the City Council could choose to adopt the proposal at a meeting Aug. 20th or send it to voters. Officials confirmed Monday that Citizens for a Healthy Fort Collins had collected enough valid signatures from registered city voters for the proposal to go before voters.

Campaign organizer Kelly Giddens said in a written statement.

“Our mission now is to work toward a victory in November that will help protect the public’s health, safety and property values from the dangerous industrial process of fracking,”


Representative of the oil industry say fracturing is safe and has been used for may years.
