A woman was arrested in a stabbing that took place early Tuesday morning in Fort Collins' Jefferson Park.

According to a news release, Fort Collins Police received a call at 2:21 a.m. regarding a fight between 2 females in Jefferson Park. The 911 caller said the women had been arguing when one pulled out a knife, stabbed the other woman in the chest, and fled the scene.

The suspect was identified by witnesses as Jesse Burton, 28. Witnesses also indicated she may have known the victim, identified as 25-year-old Jewel Gibbs.

Police and medical personnel responded, and Gibbs was taken to Medical Center of the Rockies with serious bodily injury - though she is expected to survive.

At 10:45 a.m. Tuesday morning, police received a report that Burton was walking on Peterson Street in Fort Collins. She was located and arrested by officers without incident.

Burton was booked into Larimer County Jail on a no-bond warrant for attempted first degree murder and first degree assault.
