Fort Collins residents have been put on alert to watch out for people posing as contractors with intentions of burglary.

Fort Collins police are investigating several incidents of burglary and theft where the suspects have posed as contractors to gain access to the victim’s home.  In each incident, two male suspects have contacted the victim at their home and have introduced themselves as contractors who have identified a problem with the victim’s residence which requires repair.  The suspects have invited the victim to come outside to see the problem, and one of the suspects remained outside with the victim to keep their attention. While the victim was distracted and outside the residence, the second suspect entered the victim’s home to steal items of value.  From the incidents which are under investigation, it appears the suspects are targeting elderly victims.

The suspects in these incidents have been described as two hispanic males in their 30’s to 50’s driving a pickup consistent with a contracting business.

Fort Collins Police would like to encourage our community to exercise caution to prevent these types of incidents.  Please consider verifying the identity and affiliation of anyone who wishes to enter your home to perform sales or service.

If you observe suspicious behavior which would be associated with these incidents, or if you have been the victim of a crime, please contact  Fort Collins Police Services at  (970) 221-6540 or call 911 in the case of an emergency.
