If you live in Fort Collins and your water is cloudy or discolored; don't be alarmed! Fort Collins Utilities crews will be flushing the water distribution system, weather permitting, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, for about eight weeks starting this week.According to a press release from the City of Fort Collins:

Crews will begin flushing on Mason Street and move eastward to Northern Lights Drive (east of Ziegler Road). Work will progress from the north to south, with Willox Lane as the northern boundary and Rock Creek Drive (south of Harmony Road) as the southern boundary.

Cloudy Water

Flushing may cause your water to appear cloudy or discolored. Though not harmful, this water may stain laundry. If this occurs:

  1. wait until the nearby flushing is complete
  2. remove faucet aerators or filters
  3. let the COLD water faucet run until the water clears

This water can be used on plants and landscaping.

The flushing process doesn’t typically interrupt water service, although it can happen on occasion. A loss of water pressure is more common.
