A father in Fort Collins has been arrested for class 3 felony child abuse after his 4-month-old child was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

On February 18, Jason Schneider, 29, told police and medical personnel he had been feeding formula to his son when the child suddenly choked and became unconscious, reports Fort Collins Police Services. Schneider claims he performed CPR and back blows on the child before first responders arrived on scene.

The child was transported by helicopter to Children's Hospital Colorado in Denver after being taken to Poudre Valley Hospital. Medical professional at Children's say the child's injuries were inconsistent with CPR or back blows and were a result of non-accidental trauma.

Police issued an arrest warrant for Schneider on Thursday, who reported to Larimer County Jail the same day.

He is being charged with child abuse, a class 3 felony.
