The 4-year-old who died in Thursday's (December 4) car crash just outside Fort Collins has been identified as Jesus Martinez. The accident happened around 5:40 p.m. when the car he was riding in was struck by a Dodge truck, while making a left turn from Mulberry Street onto the northeast frontage road near I-25. Jesus was in the backseat of a 2001 Ford Taurus and suffered severe head trauma as determined by the Larimer County Coroner's Office.

The driver of Jesus's car was transported, treated and released from the Poudre Valley Hospital. The driver of the Dodge truck, 21-year-old Cody Dye was not injured in the crash. According to the Coloradoan, the intersection was closed for more than 5 hours with neither drugs nor alcohol believed to be a contributing factor. Such a tragic loss is undoubtedly unexpected, and friends of the Martinez family are doing what they can to help alleviate the stress and cost of laying their child to rest. They have started a "Go Fund Me" page that many around the Northern Colorado community have rushed to fund.
