Fire Burns Empty Silo At New Belgium Brewery [PHOTOS]

A fire broke out at New Belgium Brewing Company’s Fort Collins Brewery on Monday, forcing production to stop for a day. The fire burned insulation between the walls of a 50 foot tall decommissioned grain silo.

Poudre Fire Authority crews took immediate action to prevent the fire from spreading to another nearby silo and a malt storage facility by pouring water on the exterior of the silo that was on fire. The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes with no reported damage to the other structures.

The incident did not affect the main building and there were no evacuations and no reported injuries.

A PFA investigator determined the origin of the fire to be the exterior of the decommissioned silo. The cause was accidental. The fire was apparently sparked by a worker cutting or welding on the empty silo.
