Fern Lake Fire Could Worsen Today
The wildfire that is burning in Rocky Mountain National Park could grow today. Warmer temperatures and rugged terrain could combine to give firefighters a difficult day. According to thedenverchannel.com, the Fern Lake Fire began Tuesday afternoon and forced officials to close the Moraine Park campground as well as Upper Beaver Meadows and Break Lake roads.
The area hasn’t burned in hundreds of years and has stands of pine trees that have been killed by the beetle infestation that has plagued Colorado and the west for years. Plumes of smoke are thick and very visible over Estes Park, though no evacuation orders have been issued.
