The Community Classic Bike Tour is one of Loveland’s premier community events, celebrating 25 years in 2012.

There are four distances to choose from: 62-mile, 37-Mile, 30-Mile, or 10-Mile. The rides begin and end at McKee Medical Center in Loveland located at 2000 Boise Ave. starting at 6:30 a.m.

The 62-mile ride will enjoy the sites of the Big Thompson River, Lon Hagler Reservoir, Carter Lake, Green Ridge Glade Reservoir, Masonville, Horsetooth Reservoir, Fort Collins, Boyd Lake, and Loveland.

• Members of each team take turns walking around the track for the duration of the event

What Happens at a Relay Event

There are many moments that create the Relay experience. Specific details vary by event. But the key moments that all events share in common are listed below:

Survivors Lap
Relay starts with a Survivors Lap – an inspirational time when survivors are invited to circle the track together and help everyone celebrate the victories we’ve achieved over cancer. We also recognize and celebrate caregivers at Relay For Life. These individuals give their time, love, and support to friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers who face cancer.

Luminaria Ceremony
After dark, we honor people who have been touched by cancer and remember loved ones lost to the disease during the Luminaria Ceremony. Candles are lit inside bags filled with sand, each one bearing the name of a person touched by cancer, and participants often walk a lap in silence. Learn More »

Fight Back Ceremony
Last, there is a Fight Back Ceremony, where we make a personal commitment to save lives by taking up the fight against cancer. That personal commitment may be to do something as simple as getting a screening test, quitting smoking, or talking to elected officials about cancer. By taking action, people are personally taking steps to save lives and fight back against a disease that takes too much.

History of Relay

One person can make a difference. Nowhere is that more evident than with the story of the American Cancer Society Relay For Life, which began in Tacoma, Washington. In the mid-1980s, Dr. Gordy Klatt, a Tacoma colorectal surgeon, wanted to enhance the income of his local American Cancer Society office and to show support for all of his patients who had battled cancer. He decided to personally raise money for the fight by doing something he enjoyed – running marathons.

In May 1985, Dr. Klatt spent a grueling 24 hours circling the track at Baker Stadium at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma. He ran for more than 83 miles. That first year, nearly 300 of Dr. Klatt’s friends, family, and patients watched as he ran and walked the course. Throughout the night, friends donated $25 to run or walk with Dr. Klatt for 30 minutes. His efforts raised $27,000 to fight cancer.

While circling the track those 24 hours, Dr. Klatt thought about how others could take part in his mission to fight cancer. He envisioned a 24-hour team relay event that could raise more money to fight cancer. Over the next few months, he pulled together a small committee to plan the first team relay event, known as the City of Destiny Classic 24-Hour Run Against Cancer.

In 1986, with the help of Pat Flynn – now known as the “Mother of Relay” – 19 teams took part in the first team Relay event on the track at the historic Stadium Bowl and raised $33,000. An indescribable spirit prevailed at the track and in the tents that dotted the infield.

Sierra’s Race Against Meningitis is committed to prevent bacterial meningitis in our community, through raising awareness, educating the public, and providing free vaccinations. Through these commitments, our goal is to ultimately stop the spread of Bacterial Meningitis so no family or individual should have to endure the effects of this deadly, vaccine-preventable disease.

The Windsor-Severance Fire Protection District will be hosting its 10^th Annual Open House this summer.  The purpose of the Open House is to show the community how much we appreciate its support and demonstrate other capabilities and programs within the fire and life safety community. There will be live fire and rescue operations, a child safety seat check point as well as safety demonstrations.  Other surrounding emergency services agencies will be participating with informational booths, apparatus displays and demonstrations showcasing their capabilities and public education.  This is a great time to teach fire safety to the community, as well as a fun time for the whole family.

This family-oriented 5K will be in Old Town Fort Collins. Join us on this great Sunday to celebrate Father’s Day! After the 5K, youth 12 and under can enjoy a Kids’ Fun Run (either 1 mile or 1/2 mile). This year we are giving tech shirts with each registration! After all of the events, we welcome the participants to enjoy a popsicle after the race!

For those of you who live out of state this is one ride worth taking some vacation time for.  Who wouldn’t want to ride on our majestic Rocky Mountains and this poker run will cover 175 miles of some of the best riding in the entire country AND you could win some big time CASH! And whoever “rides” the furthest {no trailer} will get a special prize.

The day starts and ends at Thunder Mountain Harley Davidson. Registration and breakfast start at 8am, riders out by 10am, Saturday June 30th. This years after party invades The Boot Grill starting at 3pm with live music from Psycho X and some great prizes to pass out in addition to awarding $3000 in CASH to the top 3 hands of the day!

In addition to the registration fee you are highly encouraged to bring at least one brand new unwrapped toy to carry on the day’s ride. After all, it is  a toy run!  For every toy you donate you get a raffle ticket towards winning prizes at the after party.

Since this is the 2nd year of the “Summer Series” run, 2′s will be the wild card.  In the event of a tie, like last year, those tied will sit down at a table and play out one hand of 5 card draw to determine the winner.  Bring your poker face…

The poker run will be a full 5 run stop and this year we again break out the BB Guns for the stop at Beavers Den Leather and you have to shoot the card you want, or attempt to. The day ends with the after party at The Boot Grill off I-25 and Crossroads with live music from Psycho X, prizes, food & drink from 3pm to 7pm and the $3000 cash payout to the top 3 hands of the day!

National recording artist Whiskey Myers plays starting at 9pm and those tickets can be purchased through The Boot Grill for only $15.
