Additional Information

There is nothing hotter in Hollywood right now than TV. With networks battling cable and online subscription services for audience eyes, the content pipeline is bigger than it has ever been! Better still, getting into TV is easier than ever—but first you need a solid pilot.

Teleplays have their own formatting and structural secrets, and the range of approaches are numerous. From sitcoms to network procedurals to mythology series to straight up dramas, you’ll learn the most current techniques in putting your show to paper. This class will help you to identify and develop the storytelling elements at the core of every series, and make sure you’ve got enough “there there” for an extended run.

In this 8-week, 3-hour class (1 p.m. to 4 p.m.), half the time will be devoted to discussing real world, Hollywood-ready formatting techniques, focusing on the all-important core concept, correct TV structure, and character evolution over a long story arc. The other half of each session will be about workshopping your teleplays. Each writer will have the opportunity to complete either one 1-hour or two half-hour shows under instructor guidance, and workshop up to 25 pages of it in class.
