A sculpture titled "Equinox" will be unveiled at U.S. Highway 34 and I-25 this week.

Three steel horses, each 24 feet long and 12 feet high, will gallop across an undulating, 100-foot-long stretch of railroad track high above the intersection. The piece  inspired by the art of Arapaho and Southern Cheyenne Plains Indians, is the work of three Loveland artists who were selected after a months-long competition.

Funding for the project comes from a $163,000 Colorado Department of Transportation System Enhancement grant, augmented by $62,000 from Loveland’s Art in Public Places fund.

“Equinox” is the collaborative endeavor of three Loveland residents, figurative sculptor Jack Kreutzer, structural engineer and artist Doug Rutledge and artist and philanthropist Doug Erion.

Dedication Ceremony

Dedication of the sculpture will take place Saturday, Sept. 27, from 3-5 p.m. on a site just northeast of the I-25/U.S. 34 junction in the parking lot behind Jared’s jewelers in the Promenade Shops.

Due to limited parking, please use parking lot south of Barnes and Noble Booksellers.
