I really hesitated about whether to write this blog or not. I would much rather show you what I have done then tell you what I am going to do but I thought this might help others who are fighting this too so I am going for it.

I am a dude who has battled weight issues all of my life. I have lost over a hundred pounds over the last 20 years but still go back and forth with 40 or 50 of it. I am not one to diet. I hate diets and even detest the word. Diets don't work but a permanent change in your lifestyle does. I am not on a goal mission with a target weight in mind. I have just changed the way I live and getting healthier will just be a residual effect of the lifestyle change.

I decided that after battling my diabetes for years that I would actually do what the doctors have told me and changed my life to one a diabetic should live. I monitor my blood sugar constantly and count every single carb that goes into my body. Carbs turn to sugar which is my greatest enemy. I allow myself a maximum of 30 carbs a meal. This is not a diet, this is how I will live the rest of my days. I have had to really limit things I used to love like bread, pasta, rice and donuts but it is worth it. My blood sugars are constantly in the proper range, my blood pressure is down and I have dropped 40 pounds in the last 5 months.

I am a big dude and I can tell I have been losing but it is not something the public will notice yet. I am one of those guys who will lose 50 pounds and people will say "did you get a new shirt or a haircut or something?". I am just doing this to live longer and better. Losing weight is one of the most difficult things to do. If you are a drug addict or alcoholic, you can not partake in your vice and you are sober, at least for the moment, and feel what normal is like. If you are fat and you do everything right for a month you will still be fat. It can be very disheartening and defeating. I tell you to hang in there. You have to be patient. Don't worry about day to day results, just change your life and be patient. It took me years to get this way so it will take a few to get it off. Diets are intimidating but changing your life is something you can commit to. I didn't think it was possible but I have changed. I am hungry but I work through it without killing anyone.

If you are ready to make a change...I am here to support you. You CAN do it. Just be patient and be strong.
