Discovery Channel Blamed for Colorado Woman’s Death
The family of a Colorado Springs woman killed while filming the opening of a planned reality TV series are suing Discovery Channel’s parent company Discovery Communications. According to The Denver Business Journal, Melvin Bernstein filed the lawsuit in federal court over the June 2012 death of his 51-year-old wife, Terry Flanell. Bernstein and Flanell owned Dragon Man, a firing range and gun store in Colorado Springs. The lawsuit claims Discovery was to make a series about the couple, called “Brothers in Arms”. During filming of the opening sequence, pyrotechnic devices that were meant to create a smoky atmosphere went out of control and struck Flanel and killed her.
