After being sentenced to probation for misdemeanor child abuse, a former Berthoud police officer had been arrested and charged for sexually assaulting a minor. Thirty-nine-year-old Jeremy Yachik, who was placed on three years probation and 30 days of work release in 2014, after pleading guilty to one count of child abuse, was arrested Tuesday (September 8) on two counts of sex assault on a child by someone in a position of trust. According to the Coloradoan, the offenses happened in August of 2010, and again from August 2011 to August 2012. If found guilty, Yachik could be sentenced to 12 years in prison for each count.

Yachik's child abuse case from 2014 was in connection with his essentially torturing his 15-year-old daughter, by force-feeding her hot sauce, binding her with zip ties and whipping her with ropes. The subsequent investigation of Yachik revealed a coverup by the Berthoud police department, and led to the department being disbanded with the law enforcement of that area being absorbed by Larimer County.
