Memorial Day is over but the legacy of Sgt. James "OJ" Alvarado lives on in the hearts of many. Join his family and friends in June to honor his memory.

I am updating a recent story on the Legacy Poker Run in OJ's memory as new information has become available and wanted to make sure everyone knew well in advance so you can plan accordingly.

His Father, Ignacio "Nacho" Alvarado is a friend of mine and has always honored our Armced Forces in many ways. So, it's our turn to say thank you to his family and especially his son, who was one of many we honored this past Memorial Day.

The OJ Alvarado Legacy Poker run will be on Sunday, June 14 and proceeds from the event will be split between the Semper Fi Fund and also the Blue and Gold Star Mothers. Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. at the American Legion Post 109 (624 Ash) in Windsor with the last bike out by 10:30 a.m. and will also end at the Windsor American Legion at 4:00 p.m.

OJ Alvarado, always a United States Marine from Greeley, passed away suddenly and without warning on 1 June, 2014. SGT James "OJ" Alvarado was a member of the 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines (2/1) Weapons Company at Camp Pendleton in California and also completed two overseas combat tours; his first to Iraq in 2009 and the second to Afghanistan in 2011.  OJ is survived by his wife Traci, 5 year old daughter Codi and 10 month old son Abel.
