The Boulder County Sheriff's deputy involved in the shooting that took place on Highway 287, just south of Longmont, on September 10 has been identified as Deputy Teri Javes.

Deputy Javes is a 19-year veteran with the Boulder County Sheriff's Office, who began her career as a civilian technician officer in the jail back in 1997. She was promoted to jail deputy in 1998 and served in the Jail Division until 2013, when she was then transferred to patrol in the Operations Division. Throughout her career thus far, Deputy Javes has been the recipient of many awards and commendations, including a Life-Saving medal in 2012 for her role in saving the life of an inmate who had attempted suicide.

After receiving multiple calls of a suspicious man walking alongside the road, yelling at cars and carrying a gun on Saturday night, Deputy Javes was the first to arrive to the scene in the 7500 block of North 107th. As the deputy approached, the suspect immediately engaged in gunfire, shooting out Deputy Javes vehicle window. Multiple shots were exchanged between the two, and following the incident, the suspect was taken to an area hospital to treat his wounds. Deputy Javes was uninjured, and has currently been placed on administrative leave.
