A Weld County Sheriff's deputy accidentally hit a bicyclist in Greeley on Saturday.

In a news release, the Weld County Sheriff's Office said a deputy participating in a training event was traveling south on 83rd Avenue at 11:10 a.m. and attempted to merge onto Business Highway 34 when he accidentally hit a bicyclist.

The deputy was driving his marked patrol unit and immediately notified dispatch of the incident.

Greeley police responded to the scene and the cyclist was transported for medical attention.

An internal investigation with the WCSO will be launched in conjunction with the investigation being conducted by the Greeley Police Department. The deputy has not been placed on administrative leave because there is no clear indication of violation of policy or procedure.

The cyclist's condition was not listed.

We also want to be clear it sounds like this was a complete accident. Weld County Sheriff's deputies do a fantastic job protecting our community, but unfortunately accidents can happen. Our thoughts are with all parties at this time and hope everything can be resolved justly.
