With growing online subscription services like Netflix and Hulu it was just a matter of time before movie theaters jumped on the bandwagon. AMC Theaters, the number 2 chain in North America behind Regal Entertainment is looking to test a subscription service in 2 markets. Starting in January 2015, moviegoers in Boston and Denver will be able to buy a monthly subscription to see movies in their theaters through the MoviePass app.

MoviePass attempted to get a subscription service off the ground on its own several years ago. However it floundered without the backing of a dedicated theater chain. The AMC subscription service will have tiers ranging from $25 to $45 a month depending on where you live. All services will allow the participant to take advantage of up to a movie a day, with the higher subscription costs including 3D movies.

According to the NY Times, AMC theaters will determine to when and where they will expand their new subscription service once data has been collected.
