Colorado State University has named Jim McElwain as the 20th head coach to lead the Rams' football program. McElwain was signed to a 5-year, $1.3 million contract. The 49 year-old coach most recenly served as the offensive coordinator at Alabama for the last four years. McElwain will remain on Alabama's staff through the national championship game on January 9th.

McElwain was an all-state quarterback at Sentinel High School in Missoula and played college football at Eastern Washington. His previous coaching stops included Eastern Washington (1985-1994), Montana State (1995-99), Louisville (2000-02), Michigan State (2003-05), NFL's Oakland Raiders (2006) and Fresno State (2007). He recruited Colorado regularly during his time at Montana State, has recruited Florida for 15 years and also has done some recruiting in Texas and California, he said.
