Country Singers to Release Buddy Holly Tribute
Six country singers are preparing to release 'The Buddy Holly Country Tribute: Remember Me.'
The album is set for release on Sept. 7, which would have been Holly's 78th birthday. It's been 55 years since the singer's death.
The release features performances from Merle Haggard, T. Graham Brown, Country Music Hall of Fame member Jimmy Fortune, Grand Ole Opry entertainer Helen Cornelius, Sonny Curtis and David Frizzell, who also explores Holly's legacy with narration before each of the 21 tracks.
Proceeds from the album will go to the Buddy Holly Educational Foundation, which was co-founded by the Texas-born legend's widow, Maria Elena Holly, to focus on musical education.
"Buddy has stayed relevant because of the fans," Maria Elena says. "There are so many of them around the world, and they have kept him alive. They love him; they have remained loyal to him; they keep his music alive. All of the musicians who keep playing Buddy's songs, they also keep Buddy's spirit alive."
Included on the album are two recordings of 'Remember Me,' a tune that Holly learned from his brothers but never recorded. A DVD featuring the recording of the album will also be released.
