What a great experience!

We hopped in the old Subaru and made our way up to Red Feather Lakes to cut our own Christmas tree.

The U.S. Forest Service is encouraging people to come and harvest some of the trees that are up there as a form of fire mitigation. In the past couple of years I had questions of the sustainability (green) of having a real Christmas tree.

There are arguments for both sides, but I've settled on the fact that local growers plant more trees than just about any business, so paying them money encourages more of this practice.

When it comes to cutting ourselves, after all the wildfires have ravaged the area over the past few years, I am trusting the Forest Service, and hopefully even helping them.

Christmas tree cutting on the Canyon Lakes Ranger District will be from December 5-13, 2015. Permits go on sale Nov. 30. For more details, click here.
