In 2014, Congress authorized hemp production and since then the Colorado Department of Agriculture has been working on producing hemp seeds that will produce plants that have a very low trace of THC that would classify the plant to be hemp and not marijuana. Framers who want to raise the crop must have state certification for the crops. Colorado is the first state to certify the hemp seed and Colorado farmers will be able to purchase the genetically pure hemp seeds in 2017.
