Located 45 miles south of Canon City and a for hour drive from Fort Collins, Bishop Castle is a Colorado Treasure that everyone should visit. Jim Bishop has spent 46 years, and nearly all his spare time, money and energy building the towering castle for the people to enjoy. The owner of an ornamental iron shop, Bishop has built this monument out of stone and iron with his bare hands.

Unfortunately, Bishop has taken a break from building since December 2014, when he was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer. What was intended to be a one-room stone cottage, has turned into a Colorado destination, with a grand ball room, towers, dungeons, bridges and even a fire-breathing iron dragon. According to doctors, Bishop's cancer is aggressive and incurable. However, they are attempting to keep it under control, and removed a tumor as recently as January 2014.

According to Bishops wife, he has no strength and no energy at all right now. Still with several years of work to be done, this is why they have set up a trust to continue his work in case of the worst. They are continuing using the trust to keep the property maintained and running for visitors estimated between 105,000 and 120,000 annually.
