The holidays come with a lot of really great memories: from visiting Santa at the mall, to waking up on Christmas morning to open presents. But for me, it's the stories I read in the news that have had just as big an impact as any of those cheery traditions.

Back in 2014, there was this Colorado Springs couple that were arrested for stealing Christmas decorations from dozens of yards. While the story isn't all that surprising (unfortunately), I'll be honest - it's their mugshots that make this a memorable story for me.

I'm not here to judge their relationship, but I will say that my initial reaction from seeing then-18-year-old Jeremy Lewallen next to his then-42-year-old wife, Carrie Carley, was nothing short of "shocked."

I don't care about the age difference, but honestly, this couple looks like mother and son - not husband and wife. Again, I'm not here to judge their love or decision to get married, because that's really none of my damn business. But I'm coming out and saying that because they don't look like your "typical" married couple, this was a memorable story for me.

I'm just being honest.

The pair were arrested December 19, 2014, after one neighbor drove past their home on Angelina Circle North and noticed their Christmas display was in the couple's backyard. According to the arrest affidavit obtained by KDVR, Lewallen and Carley admitted to stealing about $2,000 worth of decorations from multiple families. It turns out Lewallen had also just done time in jail that November for stealing Halloween decorations, too.

According to KKTV, Lewallen was eventually sentenced to 6 months in jail and 6 years probation for the crime. Carley pleaded not guilty to the charges against her at the time of his sentencing.
