I had the opportunity to host an event for Healing Warriors recently. We were fortunate to have Steffan Tubbs as one of our guest speakers. Steffan is a long-time Denver radio personality and the Executive Producer and Director of  ACRONYM, a new 94-minute documentary that takes an in-depth and personal look at those who are experiencing, suffering from and living with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD.  The statistics are staggering: 22 veterans commit suicide every day and 75 attempt suicide. Many suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

ACRONYM features interviews with U.S. veterans from WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Gulf Wars I and II, Somalia, Iraq and Afghanistan. For some WWII veterans, they are only now dealing with their PTSD - some 70 years after serving.

The film also presents alternative therapies and treatments, both traditional methods and promising non-traditional techniques.

Executive Producer and Director Steffan Tubbs experienced his own PTSD after covering the Oklahoma City bombing at the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in April of 1995. When he returned to Denver, a co-worker asked, "Are you OK? You don't seem like you." Tubbs accepted an offer to seek PTSD counseling over the next six months, going through a variety of therapies including EMDR - Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing - a form of psychotherapy. It worked.

Getting Veterans to Watch the Movie

The goal of the ACRONYM Distribution Plan is to offer a copy of this important documentary, FREE OF CHARGE, to every veteran's organization, veteran's support group and veteran's counseling center in the country.  They also want to distribute to schools, libraries, museums and other educational organizations.
