A company based in Colorado is shutting down one of its facilities, much to the dismay of 300 workers.

Ball Corporation, based in Broomfield, Colorado, is closing its manufacturing facility in Weirton, West Virginia, early next year, cutting the jobs of at least 300 people, reports the Denver Business Journal.

Chief operating officer Jim Peterson said in a statement this move will allow the company to remain competitive in a changing market and continue to give consumers the best product possible.

Ball manufactures canning jars (pictured) and recyclable beverage cans for businesses around the world. It also works in other areas such as avionics and space systems. It acquired the West Virginia plant in 1993, where they manufacture lithography and coating for flat sheet tinplate and can ends.
