A Cheyenne woman could face up to ten years in prison after authorities caught her trying to smuggle over 40 grams of methamphetamine into the Laramie County Jail.

According to court documents, 32-year-old Santana Mata was arrested on February 17 after a Laramie County Sheriff's Department deputy pulled her over for making an abrupt lane change without signaling and discovered her license was suspended.

The deputy said he observed Mata possibly removing something from the glove box and placing it down the front of her pants, but when he asked her repeatedly if she had any weapons or drugs in her vehicle or on her Mata said no.

Once at the jail, Mata told the deputy she needed to use the restroom right away. She was again asked if she had any weapons or drugs hidden on her and she said no.

A strip search was performed and deputies located a baggie containing 40.1 grams of meth inside Mata's vagina.

Mata was charged with felony possession of methamphetamine and taking a controlled substance into a penal institution. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 2 in Laramie County Circuit Court.
