It's amazing how some of the best things in life are found by total accident. This weekend was one of those times for Lesli and I as we enjoyed a quiet weekend together in the great state of Nebraska.

Our original plan was to ride up to the Nebraska National Forest (that story comes later) but since temps were 40 degrees below normal and rainy, we stayed close and since I had never been to Lake McConaughy we decided to head out that way for lunch.

We reached our turnoff, just outside Lewellen, and were starving so decided to turn around and go back into town which you can miss unless you're coming from the Big Springs exit.  We knew there was an eatery but when we say small town, Lewellen defines small towns.  With a population of just over 200 we found it hard to believe there was anywhere to eat in town.

We rolled down main street and there it was. The Blind Goose.  We circled a few times and decided to give it a whirl.

OMG

The food was out of this world.  I did the hot hamburger which was an all Angus beef patty on bread, mashed taters on the side and all smothered in the best gravy I have ever had. Lesli had the french dip and it was the first time she didn't talk through the entire meal.  It was THAT good.  (Love you honey)

As we left, Gary the owner came up to talk with us.  Come to find out he and his wife Patty (Moved to Lewellen from Brush Colorado over a decade ago) are huge supporters of providing toys and turkey's to the families that surround their town that would have no Christmas without Gary and Patty.  Those are my kind of people.

To all my friends reading this today. Please go like The Blind Goose FB page and leave a nice message. (Just click on the big red link below.) I would like to see their page up to 200 likes today and next time you are in the Ogallala Nebraska area, please stop by and try the food at The Blind Goose (218 Main Street, Lewellen, Nebraska 69147) and maybe even donate a few bucks to help with their Christmas good will.

For Lesli and I?  We are already making plans on another trip specifically for the hot hamburger and french dip lunch.
