After coming so close to riding 10,000 miles in 240 hours last year, I came up short. It was the day after my Endurance Ride that I knew I had to give it one more try.

In June of 2014 I set out to raise money for Honor Flight Northern Colorado by doing several Iron Butt rides at the same time. These weren't just any IB rides, but three of the most difficult rides to be done all in a row. Friends and strangers alike sponsored the ride at $1 per mile and my goal was to raise $10,000 - 10,000 miles = $10,000. When it was all said and done, and time to do the ride, $35,000 was raised which sent 35 Veterans on the September 2014 flight to Washington D.C.

To do an Iron Butt ride, the clock starts when you get your first gas receipt and the ride must be done in the allotted time frame so the 24-hour clock starts when the ride does; not at Midnight like a normal day.

I left on 4 June 2014 for the Canadian border to begin the first of the extreme rides on 5 June. The 'Border to Border Insanity' run allows a rider 24 hours to go from inside the Canadian border to inside the Mexico border and I finished that ride on 6 June at just under 22 hours. After a bike breakdown in Mexico and getting searched, I got a few hours of sleep and then left from a beach in San Diego, CA on the Coast to Coast run (50CC) the evening of 6 June. The 50CC allows the rider 50 hours and I did the 50CC ending at Jacksonville Beach in Jacksonville, FL in just under 48 hours. From then on, the goal was to knock off the 10/10ths which is 10,000 miles in 10 days, or, 240 hours from the time of that first gas receipt on 4 June, which would be another 5000 miles and an oil change at the halfway point.

Although I did complete the 10,000 in 10 days, the ride could not be certified by the Iron Butt Association because when my 240 hour mark rolled around in Nebraska on the last leg, I was 136 miles short. A very emotional moment for me considering everything I had already been through and it wasn't 24 hours before I knew I had to try the 10/10ths one more time or I would never be able to let it go. I learned a lot from my past experience and quite confident I can crush the 10/10ths just like I did the Border to Border Insanity and Coast to Coast run - back to back which to my knowledge, had never been done before, by anyone.

So, win or fail, I will attempt the 10/10ths ride one more time to raise money for Honor Flight Northern Colorado. If you're not familiar with Honor Flight, they are an association with hubs all across the country who send our World War II, Korea and Vietnam Veterans to Washington D.C. to visit and see the Memorials and Monuments that were built to honor them. The goal this time though is to raise $50,000 to send 50 Veterans from Colorado and surrounding states on the September 2015 flight to Washington D.C.

My endurance ride will once again begin on 4 June and will officially end on 13 June, 240 hours from the time I leave on this adventure. Flag Day is 14 June and I want to be home to enjoy and celebrate the day with family and friends and not be on the road finishing this monstrous ride. It is my hope that anyone reading this and/or seeing this page, will once again sponsor some miles and share this with all your family and friends who have Veterans in Colorado and neighboring states who have never been to Washington D.C to see their Memorials and Monuments; especially our World War II Veterans who are dying at the rate of about 630 a day and their time is running out.

For those of you who sponsored miles last year, we hope to see you step up one final time to support this endurance ride and for those of you seeing this for the first time, all the information on how to sponsor miles is on the official Facebook page (check the left side of the page in the 'About' section) and this year we also have a website so if you have friends or family that don't have Facebook, please share the website with them. If you don't have Facebook and would like to sponsor some miles, or have questions how to sponsor miles, email me at charley@k99.comm or BikerDude80634@yahoo.com.

Thanks in advance from me personally and all the Veterans you will be sending to Washington D.C. on a trip they more than deserve.
