New Country 99.1 Staff

Today is a very special day for me. Not only is today the 53rd anniversary of my birth, it is also the one year anniversary of me reaching the 100 lb weight loss mark. I can't believe it was one year ago today that I stepped on that scale at Benchmark Medical Group in Windsor and saw that magical number.

The state of Colorado is known for many things. People come from all over the world to recreate and sight see all over this great state. We have the mountains for skiing and fishing and climbing. We have so many outdoor venues and historical sights. This is the greatest place on the planet to live.

Today is one of those dark days in the history of country music. It was on this day 15 years ago that Johnny Cash passed away at the age of 71. There are few artists from any form of the entertainment field that made the kind of lasting impact Johnny Cash did. I am actually wearing my Johnny Cash t-shirt today

I have always been one to make my bed. Okay, my mom would argue that but I would say that since adulthood that I have been a regular bed maker. I love a nice clean bed with tucked in sheets to sleep in at night. I can wash the sheets and get them on the bed but that darn fitted sheet has been a pain in backside forever.

We will never forget this day. We will always remember exactly what we were doing at 6:46 am on September 11 of 2001. Our innocence was shattered. We felt something we had never felt before. We were vulnerable on our own soil. We all felt it and were wounded but something amazing happened in spite of it...we united.

Put this in the "Things I Never Thought I Would See" file. I recently jumped on a trampoline. Keep in mind I have been 300 plus pounds for most of my life so I was not permitted or able to jump on a trampoline since high school. That all changed this past week.

I can remember sitting in my office back in 1991, I actually had an office for a few months once, and having a record guy come in and tell me I was about to be blown away by what I was going to hear. Keep in mind a record guys says that to me at least 3 times a week so you tend to take it with a grain of salt. This time the guy was right.

Our whole community aches for the Zerby family following the tragic accident on Labor Day. We have all prayed and sent our well wishes and feelings of love and support. There is a helpless feeling and we all wish there was something we could do.

Happy Friday and Habajeeba to you and yours. We have made it through another week. Congratulations! I had another week of amazing highs and some deep lows and once again have needed some inspiration to get through. Here is my weekly dose of what popped into my melon to help me along.

This Saturday there is a very cool event in Loveland. It is Pastels on 5th. It is a great day of artistic expression for a great cause. A group I believe in and would love to see prosper is Alternatives to Violence. They will be one of the beneficiaries of the event and they are very worthy of anything you can find in your heart to give.

Yesterday I got a sudden urge to clean out my cupboards. When the seasons start to get ready to change I tend to do a little seasonal cleaning. I decided I would check the expiration dates on the products in the "way up there" cupboards and see what I could find. I discovered that I had not done this in a long long time.

September is World Alzheimer's Month. This is the month to get educated and learn what we can about Alzheimer's and do all we can to hopefully one day find a cure for this heartbreaking affliction. There are few things more saddening than watching someone you love slowly lose their ability to remember their lives. It crushes me.
