A good friend mine, Kenny Oldson and his wife Nancy, invited me on a Father's Day ride to go pay our respects to his Grandfather who is buried in Minturn and also trained and served with the 10th Mountain Division between Red Cliff and Leadville. What a storied past it must have been for Voyde Oldson.
There is no doubt the United States Army has suffered greatly the last couple months taking more casualties than any other branch of the service; three (3) more have paid the ultimate price since last Monday’s post. As irony would have it, I visited the original training site of the 10th Mountain Division up near Leadville CO on Father's Day and today I see we have lost 2 from that very division. Why do we continue to let American's die for someone else's freedom? Enough is enough...
So many people seem to be obsessed with what they own. They have to have the newest brand name, the latest "it" trend or feel that if they have a certain kind of car that it will make them cool or happy. Happiness and cool have nothing to do with what you own, they are defined by what you have inside.
Father's Day is this Sunday so don't forget your Dad. Those of you who are lucky enough to still have your Dad with you, let him know and if your Dad is gone now, you can still pay respect to him on his day. (Photo included of my Dad's grave and what I did on Father's day 3 years ago.)
They are older than the country itself. The United States Army, protecting our borders, constitution and flag since 1775. Recently, the Army has suffered more casualties overseas than any other branch of the military so today, on Flag Day, make sure to thank the Army Veteran in your life.
