According to today's Coloradoan, Fort Collins Police are investigating a series of burglaries within the city and and are advising all city residents to stay on alert for anything that they may deem suspicious.

The bulk of the recent burglaries have been in the Northwest part of the city. However, officials have started to see these crimes occur in other sections which has brought the matter even more into attention. While no suspects have been identified, investigators are pursuing possible leads and are asking for the public's help to gather more information. One lead had residents saying that they saw two white or Hispanic males leaving an area where burglaries occurred on Laporte Avenue west of Shields Street.

While some of the burglaries contain related scenarios, police have not been able to determine if the crimes are all related. No further information about the investigation has been made available.

Police are urging residents and business owners to take the following general precautions to prevent thefts:

•Report all suspicious activity immediately to the police. Use 911 appropriately to report any in-progress crimes or activities. Call 970-221-6540 to report suspicious activity that is not occurring at the time of the call.

•Communicate with neighbors and report suspicious activity at neighbors' house while they are away.

•Lock all doors and windows, even when at home.

•Record the serial numbers on valuable items and keep the list in a safe place away from your home or business.

•Photograph all valuables, especially those without serial numbers. Keep copies of the photos in a different location.

•If a break-in has occurred, do not enter the premise or touch anything until police have arrived to avoid disturbing valuable evidence.

Anyone with information about these burglaries is encouraged to call Detective Kyle Bendzsa at 970-221-6577 or Crime Stoppers at 970-221-6868.
