Sports and superstition have a long history of coexisting.  From the Major League baseball players not touching the first base line (2007 Boston Red Sox) to NBA players wearing their college basketball shorts under their NBA pair for good luck (Michael Jordan).

Sports nerd break:  Did you know that Michael Jordan wore his University of North Carolina basketball shorts underneath his NBA shorts because he felt that his college mesh was so lucky?  In order for his UNC shorts to be covered he started wearing the longer shorts, and thus an NBA trend was born.

Looking ahead to Sunday while you are planning out your meals, maybe getting stocked up on your adult beverages, and figuring out just what jersey is the “lucky” one that’s sitting in your closet.  Don’t worry I’m not making fun of you.  Being a former athlete I get it.  Every basketball game I ever played in my dad would write me a good luck note in my shoe.  It started in middle school and followed me the rest of my basketball career.  The angst I felt looking into my shoes before each game hoping he didn’t forget was immeasurable.

This brings us to Sunday’s game between the Broncos and Panthers.  We are United in Orange so everyone has to do their part.  No, I’m not talking about the team, I’m talking about all of us fans.  What did you eat two weeks ago when the Broncos won the AFC Championship game?  Do that.  Where were you sitting when they beat the Steelers the game before?  Sit there.  Where were you partying when the Broncos won the Super Bowl in 1999?  Party like it’s 1999.

Some fans who are doing their part via the Denver Post are Sako Maghakyan and his girlfriend Janette Lewis.  On Nov. 29th, they were on one of their nighttime walks in Littleton that took them through Heritage Park.  They brought along a carrot for the park’s donkey, Ernest.  That night the Broncos beat New England in overtime.  They did it again the next week and the Broncos won again.  But then they forgot for a couple of weeks and the Broncos lost back-to-back games.  You see what I’m talking about?  Sako and Janette no doubt will be doing their part.
