This has been a rather unpleasant start to the day. I was traveling down highway 257 into Windsor this morning. I was rolling about 65 mph down the road when a very large deer suddenly appeared. I didn't even have time to hit the break before I smashed into the deer and it flew over the top of my truck. It is all kind of a blur and I do not completely remember the whole thing. I was wearing my seat belt so that may have saved my head a bit. I am aching in the head and back but I am sure the deer would trade places with me in a second.

They say coffee will wake you up in the morning but I can tell you that hitting a deer at high speeds will wake you quicker than Starbucks could ever dream of. My truck is in rough shape. I could smell the radiator and hear it hissing as it was pushed way back into the engine block. I am a bit scared to find out what kind of damage awaits under the hood.

It is that time of year where we really need to keep an eye out for all the critters that are out doing their thing. Nobody wins when wildlife and a highway traveling vehicle meet. What a lousy way to start a day but thankfully I was buckled in and saved myself from what could have been a much worse situation. Be careful out there. Clueless humans and animals are all over the place this time of year. Buckle up and be safe and alert on our roads.
