Join the Poudre River Trail Corridor for a unique Blue Moon bike ride in Greeley. It's not often you get to do something like this so take advantage of it.

The Blue Moon bike ride is this Friday, July 31 in Greeley. Riders who want to take part in this very unique ride are to meet at the Red Barn off of 71st Avenue in Greeley no later than 7:30 p.m. The bike ride will go from there to the River Bluffs Open Space Trailhead and back which is about 27 miles.

Riders who are under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. All riders must sign a waiver and helmets and bike lights are required.

The Blue Moon bike ride is free but they would like riders to call (970-336-4044) and let them know you are coming but you can also register at the 71st Avenue Trailhead prior to the ride.

Keep in mind this is a rare opportunity to ride this trail at night since it's usually closed to all riders. Temperatures should be in the mid-80s with clear skies. The moon should be up around 8:20 p.m. and will be a Blue Moon. Plan on about 3 hours for the ride.

So, what is a blue moon? A blue moon isn't blue in color but rather a second full moon in a month. Normally, we see a full moon every 29.5 days but when we get two full moons in a month, the second one is called a "blue moon." The last time we saw a blue moon was in 2012 and the next one will be in January, 2018.
