I was proved wrong on two accounts on Friday. I thought there weren't many good honest people anymore and I swore I would never go out on Black Friday. I experienced both of these things first hand on Friday.

My daughter Vanessa decided she was going to brave the crowds with the boys on Friday and head to Target in Greeley for some Black Friday Shopping. We wished her luck and stayed home to enjoy not shopping. She returned about an hour later with a couple of sad little boys and was a sad looking mom. She had purchased her bundle of Christmas goodies and was unloading them from the cart into her trunk. She then loaded the boys into the car and was headed to her next shopping destination when she realized she had left her handbag in the cart at Target when she loaded her trunk. She rushed back to Target and the cart was empty. She searched the lot and called to see if anyone had turned one in. No luck! The handbag was gone. She had a good chunk of cash, credit cards and for some reason all three of their social security cards were in there too from a recent doctor visit. We were all so bummed and were sure someone was in the process of running up her card and stealing identities. I went back to Target with her one more time and searched the lot again and check with everyone inside. They were very helpful, but again, no handbag. My daughter turned to me and said "It wasn't like I planned but I did you get you out on Black Friday." I couldn't help but smile a little.

My daughter did what you should do and immediately got on the phone and cancelled her card so nothing could be done with it. She was going to call social security on Monday and I was going to to lend her cash to get her through. Not the end of the world but a big pain in the backside. I felt so bad for her. Right about then I see an unfamiliar truck pull into the driveway. A gentleman got out and walked up to the door. We answered and he asked if someone had lost a handbag. He asked her where she lost it and then he pulled it out of his jacket. He said "all the money is there and the credit cards and social security cards. I know how important these things are and how bad it could be to lose them." I thanked him and gave him some cash for being so kind to return it.

I thank you, kind stranger, for restoring my faith that there are good people out there. I never dreamed that what was lost would be returned. You may not always hear about them but there are some great people out there. We need to tell their stories.
