There are plenty of great places to find a wonderful sandwich in Fort Collins.  As my wife and I were having lunch together last week I decided to compile a list of the "Best Sandwich Shops in Fort Collins".  I also included my favorite sandwich at each of the shops. You will notice that I tend to like a good turkey sandwich.  I know I left some off my list that may make yours, so let me know in comment section below the blog.

5. Pickle Barrel East Coast Deli

The Pickle Barrel East Coast Deli is at 122 West Laurel Street in Fort Collins, right across the street from the Northeast corner of the CSU Campus. The place is legendary.  There is no doubt they make some of the best sandwiches in town. However, their restaurant is in such such a desperate need for a makeover, it kept me from putting them higher on my list. There is fine line between quaint and run-down.

My Favorite Sandwich: Toonces  - grilled turkey, dill havarti, avocado, tomatoes, ranch dressing

4. obee's- soup-salad-subs

obee's-soup-salad-subs is on the southeast corner of Prospect and Lemay right next to 7-11 and just west of Fort Collins Club.  In fact, that is how my wife and I discovered it.  We had just worked out one day and we were very hungry. If I am feeling a little I need a cold cut sandwich, obee's is definitely one of the best.  I love that they slice the meat and cheese right in front of you.

My Favorite Sandwich:  The Gutbuster - roast beef, Turkey, ham, and cheese. You choose the toppings.

3.  Avogadro's Number

Avogadro's Number or Avo's is on South Mason just north of Laurel.  It was a college hangout when I was a CSU Ram back in the 80s.  It is still the in place to be, and one of the best places in town to see live music.  They just happen to make amazing sandwiches too.

My Favorite Sandwich: Gobbly Gook-Turkey, mozzarella & cheddar, red pepper, onion, pickles, lettuce, tomato, mayo & house dressing.

2. Schlotzsky's

Schlotzsky's is on the Northeast Corner of College and Troutman, right behind the Burger King.  I know. It's a national chain, but it is locally owned and it is absolutely one of my favorite sandwich shops in Fort Collins.  It almost topped my list. besides their one of a kind sandwiches, I love love love their cracked pepper potato chips and their rasberry lemonade.

My Favorite Sandwich: The Original - smoked ham, Genoa and cotto salamis, and melted cheddar, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheeses layered with black olives, red onion, lettuce, tomato, mustard and their signature dressing on a toasted Sourdough bun.

1. Choice City Butcher & Deli

Choice City Butcher & Deli is located on West Olive, just off College Ave. at edge of Old Town Fort Collins. It's a very unique place with and old fashioned butcher shop and and restaurant all in one.  They are famous for their overstuffed sandwiches. I once had a turkey sandwich there that was so big I could barely get my mouth around it, and I have a big mouth.  They are, without a doubt, the best sandwich shop in Fort Collins.

My Favorite Sandwich: The Club - ham, turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and mayo.

HONORABLE MENTION

  • I love Jimmy John's. They almost made my top 5. If I want a ham sandwich, I go there for their PEPE with apple-wood smoked ham and provolone cheese with lettuce, tomato, and mayo..
  • Panera Bread has great sandwiches.  I have never been disappointed there.  I love their Bacon Turkey Bravo, with Smoked turkey breast, bacon, smoked Gouda, lettuce, tomatoes & their signature dressing, on Tomato Basil bread.
