When deputies from the Boulder County Sheriff's Office arrived on scene recently to a report of vehicular trespassing, they could barely believe their eyes when they made contact with the suspect. While a vehicle break in did occur, it wasn't committed by a criminal deputies would have expected to be dealing with. Instead, a "hangry" bear had managed to get into the car and then locked itself inside. Though deputies were eventually able to get the car door open and safely release the bear without anyone getting hurt, the vehicle was badly damaged during the incident.

The Sheriff's Office is using this occurrence to remind people that hungry bears and other wildlife are out searching for food this time of year, and to not leave anything inside your vehicle that could attract them. Once bears find a reliable food source, they usually return looking for more.
