If you were to make a list of the best country songs of all time there are certain titles that are a must. The Barbara Mandrell/George Jones classic "I Was Country When Country Wasn't Cool" is one of those tunes. There isn't anyone who was born before 1970 that doesn't remember singing along to this one.

It was on this date in 1981 that Barbara released this classic. She makes reference to Roy Rogers, the Grand Ole Opry and George Jones. Check out this video from an awards show in 1981 when Barbara tries to get George on stage to sing with her. I am not sure George was clued in on what was happening but it was still cool...country cool.
