Merle Haggard was always known for being as blue collar as a man could be. He was a poet for the 9-5 and then some overtime, working class. His songs oozed real life, real problems, real solutions, real joy and real pain. He celebrated the working man and in 1969 recorded the perfect tribute to the working man.

Merle set up shop in a studio 47 years ago today and recorded "Workin' Man Blues" and we all joined in with a hard working "amen". This has always been one of my favorites from The Hag and many others feel the same. Here are a few versions of that classic including Merle himself. I also found a version by Jed Zepplin, better known as Diamond Rio, Steve Wariner and Lee Roy Parnell, and a version from Brad Paisley and Vince Gill.

Hats off to the working man and thank you for the anthem Merle.
