The surprise baby giraffe calf, Dobby that was born at the Denver Zoo earlier this week was having some difficulty standing and nursing.

The Denver Zoo staff teamed with Cheyenne Mountain Zoo staff in Colorado Springs to help Dobby by providing supplemental feeding. Eventually, Dobby began to nurse, but bloodwork showed he wasn't able to receive enough infection-fighting proteins from his mom, Kipele.

Zookeepers gave Dobby a transfusion of plasma to help restore his antibody levels to normal. They continue to monitor his progress.
