Longtime Opry Member Billy Grammer Passes Away at 85

Billy Grammer, the singer and guitarist best known for his million-selling 1959 hit ‘Gotta Travel On,’ passed away Wednesday after a long illness. He was 85.

A World War Two Army veteran, Grammer broke into country music only after losing his job as a toolmaker after the war. He scored big with his debut single, ‘Gotta Travel On,’ the first of four top 40 hits in a recording career that continued for a decade.

Marshall Grant, Johnny Cash’s Last Living Original Band Member, Dead at 83

Nashville legend Marshall Grant, the last surviving member of Johnny Cash‘s original band, passed away on Sunday after suffering an aneurysm. He was 83 years old.

Grant’s bass playing helped anchor the Cash combo known as the ‘Tennessee Two,’ and was a signature part of his early sound. Just as importantly, Grant, in the picture above on the right, served as the band’s road manager, working with Cash from 1954-1980.
