When Chris Cagle parted ways with Capitol Records more than three years ago in a particularly difficult time of his life, he didn’t know what the future would bring for his country music career. Now, the Louisiana native is back full force, with his single ‘Got My Country On’ sitting in the Top 20 and a new record, appropriately titled ‘Back in the Saddle,’ due out on May 29 with Bigger Picture Group.
CMT unrolled the red carpet for their 2012 Music Awards nominations this morning, and it looks like Carrie Underwood is set to have quite the year, with a stunning total of five nominations. While Underwood is in the lead, tons of other country stars netted multiple nominations this year. Miranda Lambert is packing four — two for her solo work and two with first-time nominees Pistol Annies.
It’s no secret that Miranda Lambert is an absolute animal lover. The country starlet, who has dogs of her own and occasionally picks up irresistible strays on the side of the road, is also the founder of MuttNation. The foundation raises money to help build better animal shelters, increase pet adoption, fund spay and neuter programs and essentially do all kinds of things to better the lives of pets across the nation, as well as the lives of their owners.
This week, Reba McEntire technically became the second female country artist to ever sell more than 30 million albums. The first woman to do this was Shania Twain, who is currently considered the top-selling female country artist of all time with 34,175,000 albums sold, according to Perez Hilton.
In February, we reported that legendary country outlaw Waylon Jennings‘ family had determined to celebrate the singer’s life and career with a new album of primarily unreleased material. This week, the release date and track listing of ‘Goin’ Down Rockin’: The Last Recordings’ was finally announced. Due out September 11, 2012, the record will feature 12 songs, 11 of which Jennings wrote.
Blake Shelton may not be a fan of all the background dancers and glitzy staging he sees on ‘The Voice‘ — and he’s taken a little flack for his critiques from fellow judges who insinuate that he just doesn’t appreciate the art of staging. But that doesn’t mean the country king can’t appreciate things outside his own genre. If there’s one pop craze to which Shelton unabashedly subscribes, it’s Justin Bieber.
When we watched Jake Owen propose to now fiancee Lacey Buchanan spontaneously at a show in Vero Beach, Fla., the one little missing detail was the ring. Since Owen made a bit of a spur-of-the-moment decision to seal the deal with Buchanan in front of his hometown audience on April 7, he hadn’t quite had the time to go out and pick out the perfect rock. Now that he and his bride to be have had a few days to let the excitement settle and make some decisions, Owen is opening up and dishing on the details of the ring.
In a surprising turn of events on Tuesday night’s episode of ‘The Voice,’ celebrity coach Blake Shelton ended up eliminating his only remaining country act: blonde country cutie RaeLynn. And while Shelton admitted immediately after the live show that he had to go with his gut and judge her truly on her very last performance, he also acknowledged that his wife Miranda Lambert probably wouldn’t be too keen on his decision.
It’s a swing and a miss again for Taylor Swift fans and media outlets who want to see the starlet latched on to a star. Harry Styles, member of the 5-piece British-Irish boy band One Direction, did in fact meet Miss Swift stateside, but though he even describes her as “nice,” it looks like diehard fans are going to have to throw the line back into the water and wait for another bite. No wedding bells (or even dating bells) here, guys.
As the star-laced lineup for the 2012 CMA Music Fest is unrolled, it would seem the Country Music Association is saving the most legendary for last. The Association just announced the newest talent slated to set their boots on the stage of Nashville’s LP Field in early June, and they’re undoubtedly adding some of the biggest heavy hitters yet. Among them are legends like Glen Campbell, Kenny Rogers, Ronnie Milsap and the Mavericks, who will be reuniting for the show after almost 10 years apart.
Just a few weeks ago, country legend George Jones was released from the hospital after a six-day stay for an upper respiratory infection. While Jones seemed to be on the mend at the time, and planned to dive back into his tour schedule starting April 20, the ‘He Stopped Loving Her Today’ legend just announced on his website that he’s postponing his shows this weekend — April 20 and 21 — due to an ongoing recovery.
