Claire Davis remains in a coma and is in critical condition. She was shot in the head by Karl Pierson at her school Friday. As tragic as that is, it could have been much worse.

Investigators believe the Arapahoe High School gunman planned to target at least five parts of the school. the library and four nearby classrooms.

The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s office said that numbers were written on his arm that corresponded with the identification of the library and classrooms.  An investigation continues into who was in those rooms and if they were deliberately targeted.

18-year-old Karl Pierson was armed with a 12-gauge, pump-action shotgun when he entered the school Friday afternoon. In addition to the shotgun, he also had Molotov cocktails, a machete, and more than 125 rounds of assorted types of shotgun ammunition.

Pierson killed himself as a school resource officer was closing in.
