The City of Fort Collins will host a Q&A session on the proposed disposable bags ordinance from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 30 at Fossil Ridge High School in Fort Collins. The question I would ask is why are you as elected official trying to force your political agenda on me. It's preposterous and unethical!

The purpose of the July 30 forum, which will be hosted by Mayor Pro-Tem Gerry Horak, is to give a brief presentation and answer questions about the ordinance. The City Council will consider whether to approve the ordinance on second reading August 19. At that time public comments will be taken. I hope some intelligent, sensible citizens show up and exercise your right to express your opinion. (Even if you don't agree with me!)

The proposed ordinance would require grocers to assess a fee of 10 cents per disposable bag – either paper or plastic. If that is what most people want, that is what they should do.  I just don't happen to believe very many people really want to pay for plastic bags, including me.
