So, I have started making plans to do two {2} more Iron Butt rides this summer. The main ride will be a ride to Alaska that will cover 10,000 miles in 10 days towards the end of summer.  This is one of those IB rides that even they call "extreme" but hey, we only live once and there aren't too many people, worldwide, who have done this feat; so I'm gonna do it.  However, in order to do that ride you must first qualify on a lesser "manly" ride consisting of either the Bun Burner Gold which is 1500 miles in 24 hours, another "extreme" ride or the SaddleSore 2000 which is 2000 miles in 48 hours.  Personally, I think the SaddleSore 2000 is the way to qualify and an easier ride since I can get a few hours sleep during that ride.

Last year for Fathers Day I did two IB rides at once covering 1000 miles in less than 24 hours to earn my "SaddleSore" and then I ended the ride by covering 1500 miles in less than 36 hours to earn my "Bunburner."  Total time for 1591.1 miles was 31 hours so this is very do-able!

But Alaska is on my mind and plans are feverishly in the works.  The ride will take me all the way to Fairbanks AK before heading back south into Anchorage AK and then back through Canada and into Seattle WA.  From there I will take the coastal Hwy 1 all the way south to San Diego and back East and North to CO.  I took the liberty of attaching a gallery of pics from Alaska to give you an idea of what is the driving force behind this ride...who wouldn't want to see 10,000 miles of this country!
